The 2010 vintage was a difficult one, starting with heavy rain in the spring and a light fruit set. A cool summer followed more rain during harvest along with a few heat spikes to keep us on our toes. Managing crop levels and balancing the sugars, acids and flavors in each cluster was a challenge, but Waugh certainly rose to the occasion.
As always with our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, each of the separate vineyards (Oakville, Mt. Veeder & St. Helena) were picked and fermented separately, then after aging in French oak barrels for 24 months, the final cuvée was assembled in August 2012 and bottled in December.
Complex and vibrant aromas of red plum, cherry, and violets are accentuated by notes of black currant, dried herbs, toasted oak, and cocoa. An elegant and supple texture on the palate make the frame for generous flavors of sweet plum and dark cherry, with notes of vanilla and mocha. Dry silky tannins are well-integrated and linger in the finish.
