No growing season is easy, but 2012 presented few challenges. A mild spring led to a good fruit set. Summer and fall brought warm temperatures, but no heat waves. All the fruit enjoyed a long, slow ripening. The saturation of color is amazing; the wines are almost black. The Bordeaux varieties are all heavy with tannins but it is sweet tannin and not drying. It was a fun year to be making wine, although, to be honest, they are all fun.
Still a blend of all the red varietals we grow, expect for the Pinot Noir (per Crystal Waugh’s instructions of course). Zinfandel, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa and Sonoma), Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Barbera.
Deep ruby color. High-pitched aromas of cherry, candied violet, cracked pepper and incense. Rich and seamless in texture, offering alluringly sweet flavors of cherry compote, vanilla, dark chocolate and floral notes. The smooth, persistent finish is distinguished by fine-grained tannins and powerful energy. Enjoy!
